Why hire a car in Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik's Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most spectacular in the Mediterranean — but it's also small enough to walk in an afternoon, and the rest of the region demands a car. The Pelješac Peninsula, whose wines rank among Croatia's finest, stretches 65 km north-west and ends in a narrow neck that bridges the split in Croatia's coastline. The coastal road from Dubrovnik to Split passes through Ston, Orebić and the ferry crossing to Korčula island, and then continues through some of the most dramatic Adriatic scenery on the continent.
Cross into Montenegro in under an hour and you reach the UNESCO Bay of Kotor — arguably more dramatic than Dubrovnik itself, and far less crowded. The walled city of Kotor, the mountain road up to Lovćen National Park and the Montenegrin Riviera around Budva are all within easy reach. Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is ideally positioned: 22 km south of the Old City and just 15 km from the Montenegrin border, so a hire car collected at arrival gives you the entire south Adriatic as your territory.
