Rent a Car in Tbilisi

Tbilisi is the easiest place in Georgia to pick up a car, and once you have one the whole country opens up. The capital itself is walkable, but the trips people really come for are out of town: the dramatic Georgian Military Highway north to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) and the Gergeti Trinity Church, the rolling Kakheti wine route through Sighnaghi and Telavi, and the cave monasteries of Davit Gareja on the semi-desert Azerbaijani border. None of these are quick or comfortable to reach by public transport.

Buses and shared marshrutka minivans do run, but they leave when full, skip the smaller villages, and strand you for the detours and viewpoints that make the drive. With your own car you set the pace, stop at roadside Kakhetian wine cellars, and reach trailheads that no timetable serves. Kazbegi is roughly a three-hour drive each way, and Sighnaghi about two, so even day trips become realistic. Compare the options and you will usually find car hire cheaper and far more flexible than chaining together tours.
