Rent a Car in New Orleans

The French Quarter, Garden District and much of Uptown New Orleans are genuinely walkable, and parking in the Quarter itself is tight and not worth the hassle for a short stay — many visitors skip a car entirely for a weekend focused on the city centre. But the moment your trip extends beyond downtown, the picture changes: the River Road plantations, swamp and bayou tours, and the Gulf Coast beaches of Mississippi and Alabama are all an hour or more away and effectively unreachable without your own transport.

New Orleans is also a practical base for a wider Louisiana loop. Baton Rouge is about 90 minutes west, Cajun Country around Lafayette is roughly two hours west, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast is about an hour east. If your visit combines the city with any of the surrounding parishes or coast, picking up a car at the airport rather than downtown avoids French Quarter parking altogether.
