Rent a Car in Nerja

Nerja has no airport of its own — the nearest is Málaga-Costa del Sol (AGP), about 50 km west, and since there's no direct train link to the town, a hire car is the standard way most visitors arrive. The town's own highlights, the Balcón de Europa viewpoint and the old town streets, are easily walkable once you're settled, but the wider Axarquía region is where a car really pays off.

The Caves of Nerja, a vast karst cave system with some of the oldest known cave paintings in the world, sit about 4 km east and are an easy short drive. Further along the coast, Salobreña and Almuñécar in neighbouring Granada province are both under an hour, and the whitewashed hill villages of the Axarquía — Frigiliana, just 6 km away, and Cómpeta a little further inland — reward a slower, scenic drive that no bus route covers well. Málaga city itself, with its cathedral and Picasso museum, is a comfortable hour west.
