Dallas is a sprawling, freeway-driven city, and its attractions are spread across a huge area rather than clustered in one walkable core. Downtown, Uptown, Deep Ellum, the Bishop Arts District and the Dallas Arboretum are each their own pocket, connected mostly by highway rather than a dense transit network. A hire car lets you have brunch in Bishop Arts, spend the afternoon at the Sixth Floor Museum downtown, and be in Uptown for dinner without waiting on rideshare pricing that spikes during Cowboys or Mavericks games.

Dallas is also the natural base for exploring the wider Metroplex. Fort Worth, with its Stockyards and cultural district, is about 50 km west — close enough for a half-day trip but too far to rely on for casual day-tripping without a car. Business travellers heading to the Galleria area, Legacy West in Plano, or the corporate campuses along the Dallas North Tollway will find a car far more practical than stringing together rideshare trips across the suburbs.
