Rent a Car in Naples

Naples' historic centre is best explored on foot — the alleys of the Quartieri Spagnoli and Spaccanapoli are narrow, largely pedestrian in practice, and the city's traffic is notoriously heavy. But the real reason to hire a car in Naples is everything outside the city: the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum are about 30 minutes away, Mount Vesuvius is just over half an hour, and the UNESCO-listed Royal Palace of Caserta is about 40 minutes north.

The Amalfi Coast — Positano, Amalfi, Ravello — is about an hour from Naples, but here's an honest warning: the SS163 is narrow, winding and crowded in peak season, with very limited parking in the coastal villages. Many visitors prefer to leave the car in Sorrento or Salerno and use local buses or ferries to get along the coast road itself, keeping the car for the rest of Campania. The Phlegraean Fields, with their active volcanic area, are about 20 minutes west of Naples and much easier to visit by car.
