Seville's historic centre is one of Spain's finest — the cathedral and La Giralda, the Alcázar palace complex and the Barrio de Santa Cruz are all compact enough to explore on foot over two or three days. The city also has excellent public transport within its limits. But Andalusia is a region that unfolds over distance, and the best of it lies well outside any city boundary.

The white village route through the Pueblos Blancos — Arcos de la Frontera, Zahara de la Sierra, Grazalema and on to Ronda with its famous gorge bridge — is one of Spain's great drives, all within 150 km of Seville. Cádiz, the ancient Atlantic port city on a sliver of land at the end of a causeway, is 125 km south-west. The Doñana National Park, one of Europe's largest wetlands and a critical staging post for migrating birds, is 90 km south-west by car — practically inaccessible otherwise. Córdoba and the Mezquita, one of the Islamic world's greatest monuments, is 140 km north-east. A hire car from SVQ opens all of it.
