Why hire a car in Torremolinos
Torremolinos itself doesn't require a car — La Carihuela's seafront promenade, the Bajondillo and Playamar beaches, and the town centre are all walkable, and a direct train (Cercanías C1) links Torremolinos to Málaga and the airport in under 20 minutes. Where a hire car earns its place is everything just beyond that corridor. Mijas Pueblo, the whitewashed hill town famous for its donkey taxis and views over the coast, sits about 15 km inland with no direct rail connection. Marbella and Puerto Banús are under an hour west along the AP-7, and the mountain villages of the Axarquía to the east open up a slower, greener side of Málaga province that buses barely reach.
Torremolinos also has the advantage of being minutes from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) — at about 10 km, it's the shortest airport transfer of any town on the Costa del Sol. That makes it a practical base for a fly-drive holiday: pick up the car straight off the plane, settle into your hotel within 15–20 minutes, and use the rest of the week for day trips to Málaga's historic centre, Mijas, or as far as Ronda in the mountains, roughly 1h30 north.
