Why hire a car in Sitges
Sitges itself is made for walking — the old town, the seafront promenade and the nine beaches all sit within a compact, flat grid that most visitors cover on foot in an afternoon. Renting a car makes little sense if a beach holiday inside the town is the whole plan. But Sitges is also one of the easiest bases on the Catalan coast for day trips, and that's where a hire car earns its keep.
Barcelona is only 35 km north-east, close enough for a half-day museum visit or dinner in the Gothic Quarter without committing to a hotel change. The Penedès wine region, home to most of Catalonia's cava producers, starts less than 30 km inland and rewards a slow drive between vineyards that public transport barely reaches. South along the coast, the beaches of Costa Daurada and the walled town of Tarragona, with its Roman ruins, are under an hour away. For a town this well connected by train to Barcelona, a car isn't essential — but it's the only practical way to see the Garraf massif, the cava country and the Costa Daurada coast on one trip.
